Wooden active bending geodesic dome

We built the V2 prototype for the geodesic dome from the dodecahedron. So the geometric poligon that we could find repeated and in the top of the dome is the regular pentagon.

Instead of using straight bars, originally planar slats are curved to perfectly fit the hemispherical surface. This bending operation, while achieving a better surface adaptation also increases the stiffness of the structural elements.

The optimization of a single standard plywood of okoume 4mm thick has been aimed for obtaining the dimensions of the dome. This board has been divided in two groups of pieces, 35 long and 30 short ones.

The hemisphere obtained can be used as a game for children and has a slightly less than 2 meters diameter. The assembly process takes about an hour and a quarter, while the disassembly takes about fifteen minutes.
